Department of Electrical Engineering, 7-8 May 2012
In order to exhibit the final year projects of the Engineering students, the Department of Electrical Engineering, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad organized EMCOT as a part of TechnoMoot 2012. The 2 day events continued from 8-9 May 2012 where around 69 projects were displayed by the students of 20 universities from all over the country. All the projects were evaluated by a panel of judges and based on their recommendations; the project titled “Self Balancing Vehicle” by the students of PNEC Karachi got the first position.
Five Axis computer Numerical control machine from case Islamabad got the 2nd prize and GSM interceptor from Military College of signals, NUST, Rawalpindi got 3rd prize. The project “Theory of permanent magnetic motion & variable field of magnetic motor” from CIIT, Abbottabad got the consolation prize.
There were two most interesting seminars conducted in which the world renowned figures delivered talks, first on the 1st day of EMCOT started at noon with the topic “Born to innovate” presented by Mr. Shabbir Khan, Adjunct faculty member NUST, where interesting philosophy of potential of creativity and capability of each individuals was presented. He gave the idea on how to tap into your inner genius, confront big problems facing today’s society, invent new methods to solve these problems and inspire others around you to adopt your innovations. His talk was not intended for engineers only but for people from all walks of life. He was also interested in finding like minded people to work with him in Pakistan to develop new products and build new institutions to serve all humanities.
The 2nd Seminar was presented by Dr. Muhammad Altaf, HOD EE department, CIIT Attock, on the 2nd day of EMCOT at about 12:00 Noon and the topic was “Video Compression for streaming”. This seminar was intended for the electrical engineers with particular interest in image processing and compression. Dr. Altaf presented the detailed analysis of the compression and robustness techniques introduced for efficient streaming in the last decade along with literature review of renowned researcher in the field.
Overall the projects were highly appreciated by the guests, speakers and judges and it is a beneficial platform for our school students. Students from different schools attended the event and showed particular interest in the projects and got inspiration from the exhibition.
