One Day Workshop on Minds to the Market

EE department, CIIT Abbottabad organized a one day Workshop on Saturday, December 1, 2012 for the students of CIIT on “Minds to the Market” in collaboration with National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS), which is a scientific organization with pure academic motives consisting of renowned academicians, scientists, and researchers from various reputed universities and experts.

The objective of the event was to make the students aware of the business world and the challenges in their professional career and to develop their skills of how to market their ideas. A large number of students from various departments participated in the event. Renowned scholars and entrepreneurs delivered lectures on career planning and entrepreneurship. The workshop provided a hands-on experience to the students to develop and present their own business ideas in their relevant fields.

Following activities were carried out during the workshop:

  • During the opening ceremony, Dr Imdad Khan, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, CIIT Abbottabad gave an introduction of the event and talked about the importance of science and technology research and university-industry collaboration and how the students can make a career in the field of S&T.
  • Mr. Aftab Ahmad, President NAYS gave an introduction to NAYS and talked about the various initiatives that NAYS has taken in order to promote the research culture in Pakistan.
  • Prof. Dr Khan Gul Jadoon, Director CIIT Abbottabad addressed the audience and discussed the significance of scientific education and its role in the progress of society. He gave useful advice to the students regarding their career planning.
  • Mr. Paris Ali, Editor, Technology Times gave a brief on why the Technology times was started and its role in the promotion of science and technology.
  • Dr Mirza Habib, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) gave a lecture on “Career Entrepreneurship”.
  • The students were divided in groups to develop an innovative and effective business idea in their relevant fields. About 25 groups were formed with 5 members in each group.
  • The students then presented their ideas and were evaluated by a panel of judges. Top three ideas were awarded shields and prizes.
  • Mr. Adnan Shahid, CEO Ideogency gave a very motivational talk on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and guided the students on how to become a successful entrepreneur.
  • At the end, Dr Shahid Khattak, Chairman, Department of Electrical Engineering  presented shields to the guests.

The workshop was a great success and was very much appreciated by the participants.
