COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad organized Convocation 2013 on 6 April 2013. Ms. Cecilie Landsverk, Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan was the Chief Guest of event while Dr Peter Langer, Professor, University of Rostock, Germany was the Guest of Honor. Rector CIIT Dr S.M. Junaid Zaidi (S.I.), Pro-Rector Dr Haroon Rashid, Members Academic Council, Members Board of Governors and all other senior officials of CIIT were present on the occasion.
462 students from the Faculty of Sciences, Business Administration, Information Sciences & Technology and Engineering after a grueling stay of 4 years for undergraduates, 2 years for the Graduate Students and 5 years for the PhD studies successfully completed the requirement of the curriculum.
Event started with recitation from few verses of the Holy Quran. Students Representative on behalf of all graduating students expressed gratitude to all faculty members and parents in sparing no efforts to stand by them through thick and thin in the expeditious attainment of their goal.
She stated that it is because of parents and teachers that the graduating students have achieved their goal and their long cherished sweet dreams have come to fruition. All Graduating Students gave them a standing ovation as a mark of respect and acknowledgement for the great job done.
Ms. Cecilie Landsverk said that Pakistani Students have the potential to become part of the world force which can play their role to meet the global challenges faced by the world especially in the field of environmental protections.
She was very much impressed with the remarkable achievements of the Pakistani students especially of CIIT Abbottabad which is currently affiliated with number of Universities in Norway. Professor Dr Peter Langar was given special medal for his services.
Director CIIT Abbottabad while addressing the audience stated that the Institute which was established in 2001 is now currently offering 17 graduate and 19 postgraduate programs while 3 new programs will be started in the coming academic year.
He further stated that the number of students has crossed the figure of 5,000 where highly qualified faculty of 400 which includes 130 PhD’s staff is imparting education to the students.
225 Research papers were published and the institute has set unique example in the country with record number of International collaborations with highly ranked universities of UK, USA, China, Norway, Australia, Germany, Malaysia and others.
Continuing, he said that the Institute is also looking after all affairs of Pakistan Sweet Home situated in Abbottabad where 100 orphan kids are provided all facilities by sponsoring their education and living expenditure.
Rector CIIT while speaking at the occasion declared the day as landmark in the history of COMSATS which had successfully organized the 50th convocation, the golden jubilee of the convocations and proud to be the thousands of graduates produced by this institute currently serving in the country and abroad and are truly an asset of the country.
He advised the students to work hard in future as well and spare no effiorts to take our beloved conutry to the height of glory.
