On 15th May 2014 German Delegation comprising Dr. Dan Tidten, Head of the Cultural Section of the German Embassy Islamabad, and Ms Ursula Saarbeck, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) representative visited CIIT Abbottabad. The delegatories had meeting with the Director CIIT Abbottabad. Afterwards, a lecture was delivered to MS/PhD students and faculty about funding opportunities for research grants and proposal writing for research projects. It was followed by the certificate distribution ceremony for the students who had recently visited Germany in DAAD Group Study Visit in March 2014.
Later on FLUOstar omega, a multipurpose high-tech research instrument worth Rs.2.6 million was officially handed over to CIIT Abbottabad The instrument was provided as an equipment grant of DAAD to COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Abbottabad. Professor Dr. Shahid Khattak and Professor Dr. Jamshed Iqbal expressed their gratitude on behalf of the faculty members.
Dr. Tidten enocourged and highly appreciated the research work carried out in COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. He said ‘Pakistan’s scientists are continuously among the best of the world. First league scientists need first league equipment. Ms Saarbeck stated that this grant will further deepen the strong ties between scientists of the two countries.
Germany and Pakistan have a long-standing tradition of academic and scientific exchange, which is strongly supported by DAAD as well as the HEC. The delegation was very impressed by the visit to the research laboratories and highly encouraged the level of research project being carried out with such a great impact in scientific community. Future prospects on capacity building were discussed in detail. The visit was very successful and concluded with mutual agreement between both parties to further strengthen their ongoing projects and collaborations.
