13th Biennial Conference on “Recent Advances & Challenges in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology”

Centre for Advanced Drug Research (CADR), COMSATS, Abbottabad organized 13th Biennial Conference on “Recent Advances & Challenges in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology”. The conference was financially supported by Higher Education commission (HEC) Pakistan, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Germany and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). The conference was held with the objectives to review and discuss the recent advances in molecular targets and approaches to a collaborative inter disciplinary research in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The understanding and the techniques developed by the Biochemists have been extremely useful for research and applications in all spheres of Biology and applied sciences. In addition to several foreign speakers, there were more than 300 participants from all over the country, especially from University of Karachi, KIBGE Karachi, Jinnah Women University Karachi, School of Biological Sciences, University of Punjab, FC University Lahore, Islamia University Bahawalpur, LUMS Lahore, Khyber Medical College Peshawar, NUST Islamabad, CIIT Islamabad, University of Haripur and Hazara University Mansehra.

The conference was inaugurated by Worthy Rector – COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Prof. Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi (S.I., H.I.). In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of these type of interactions and the fruitful collaborations that may be obtained as a result of these conferences. He appreciated and welcomed the eminent professors from Pakistan as well as abroad. It was such a big event that 9 foreign speakers were actively participating during the 3 days of conference. Among these, we had Prof. Dr. Edda Tobiasch, Prof. Dr. Peter Langer and Dr. Birka from Germany, Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Ahmad, Prof. Dr. M. Hamid Zaman and Dr. Imran H. Khan from USA, Prof. Dr. Jean Sévigny from Canada, Prof. Dr. Fu-Li Li from China and Dr. Kasra Esfahani from Iran. Rector Sir appreciated that these distinguished professors have managed to join us at the event. Chairman of the conference, Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal (T.I.) highlighted the importance of conference and its role in development of new linkages in research fields and development of joint projects. He also discussed the role of these delegates in mentoring and building new research groups at CIIT, Abbottabad with their experience. He was very grateful to all key note experts, plenary and invited speakers and other national participants.

Prof. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon, Director – Abbottabad, congratulated the organizers on the event and warmly welcomed all the foreign invited speakers as well as professors throughout the country. He highlighted the importance of such events in strengthening of contacts between universities, improvement in personal, academic and professional linkages, establishment of coordination center to provide assistance and information to avail scholarships abroad. Similarly, provision of international internship opportunities, faculty development, and signing new MOUs with international institutes to improve research outcomes.

The concluding session was chaired by honorable Director COMSATS – Abbottabad, Prof. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon, where Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal acknowledged HEC, DAAD and PSF for provision of funds to organize this event. The Gala Dinner was organized for the foreign and local delegates and German Alumni which was filled with cultural music and food. An opportunity to thank the guests to fully participate in the event and make it successful as per desired objectives. The worthy Director CIIT, Abbottabad gave souvenirs to the guests and the event was concluded on the note such events will be organized to help each other to bring best from research.
