An information seminar on “Graduate Studies in Germany – Scholarships and Processes” was held at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad on Friday Feb 17, 2017 at 10:30 am. This seminar was part of a series of seminars organized by the Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development (P, D and HRD) under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CIIT prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.
The purpose of the talk was to educate the young faculty to search, explore and avail admission in MS and PhD degree programs in reputed German higher education institutes. Professor Dr. Shahid Khattak from the department of Electrical Engineering, CIIT Abbottabad shared his experiences and views regarding the avenues available for higher education in Germany in different disciplines.
Dr. Shahid Khattak received his PhD degree in 2008 from Technische Universitat Dresden, Germany. He did his MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, USA in 1997 and B.S in Electrical Engineering in 1993 from UET Peshawar. He is author and co-author of more than 25 ISI indexed journals, international and domestic conferences.
The focus of his talk was on scholarship opportunities available in Germany including scholarships for full degrees, research Grants, and Grants of Language learning. He also briefed about the Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), the German Academic Exchange Service that is very helpful for international students in seeking scholarships and admissions for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, he talked about German culture and shared tips with audience regarding how to maximize chances of getting scholarship in Germany. A copy of the presentation is also attached herewith.
A good number of the participants attended the talk including faculty and students, who keenly paid attention and participated actively by asking number of questions from the speaker. All the audience applauded the presenter and acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the speaker.
