An awareness seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPO) was conducted on Tuesday, 25th September, 2018 by Oxford University Press (OUP) for Faculty and students of COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus. The Focal person Mr. Malik Fayyaz from OUP (Islamabad) provided a thorough insight regarding the definition and scope of intellectual property rights in modern world. He also enlightened the audience about the various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights which are yet to be introduced in Pakistan and its impact on the publications and booksellers. The faculty and students took keen interest in the topic as evidenced by their insightful queries in the Q & A session. The session was also graced by the presence of Assistant Director FIA, who pored over the need of awareness regarding Intellectual Property Rights and the laws which govern the intellectual and academic theft at every level. Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Khan Chairman / Head Department of Humanities also shed light on the topic with illustrations from the academia which further clarified and highlighted the importance of relevant technicalities He also appreciated the initiative of OUP and its team who conducted this useful session for the faculty and students. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq khan urged that more such sessions be conducted in future exclusively for faculty to make them aware about their academic duties and liabilities regarding the field of research. The event was an overall success as the audience was also apprised with the issue of plagiarism in higher education. OUP had also arranged a Book fair with discounted books which was attended by faculty and students. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the participants.
