No Smoking Day was held at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad on March 1, 2012. Event was organized in Azeem Shahzad Hall, under the supervision of Chief Proctor/ Head of ERC Lt.Col Anjum Hussain Shah. All HODs, DOOs, Faculty proctors, Student Proctors and CRs attended the event.
Dr. Amjad Aziz Khan (Director INOR Abbottabad ) was the Guest of Honor. Director CIIT Abbottabad Prof. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. Ceremony started with recitation from the few verses of the Holy Quran followed by the addresses of Chief Proctor and Deputy Proctor.
Primary objectives of the Proctorial Board were highlighted by the Chief Proctor. Members of the board were motivated to fully participate in the smooth conduction of upcoming two mega events (sports week and Technomoot).
Open house session was arranged after the addresses in which the students were given a chance to directly communicate their problems, issues and suggestions to the Director. Worthy Director assured the students for all possible support, in order to help them overcome all problems.
Afterwards, Proctorial Board took the oath of serving the institution devotedly and whole heartedly. Cards were also distributed among all Proctors.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Amjad Aziz delivered the key note speech on the chronic disease cancer. He informed the audience about Cancer-a disorder at cellular level and about Etiology of cancer - a genetic alternation and unregulated mechanism. He further told that out of all the types of cancer, lung cancer is the leading cause of death and smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. Individuals using tobacco are 20-30% more prone to cancer. Out of the 10 main causes of lung cancer 9 are smoking related.
He concluded his speech by a brief introduction of INOR and its working. A souvenir was presented to the Guest of Honor by the Worthy Director.
At the end of event all the participants and organizers had a walk in the campus against smoking.
Every citizen who stops smoking, or loses a few pounds,
or starts managing his chronic disease with real diligence,
is caulking a crack for the benefit of us all
